Our Philosophy & Mission

How we teach, through the eyes of the children who help shape it

We offer children, families, and the wider community a child-centred curriculum supported by intentional teaching practices (ACECQA). Our aim is to help children grow to their full potential in an environment that is supportive and nurturing. Our teaching team helps instil lifelong learning, encouraging children to participate in real-life tasks such as caring for and maintaining the environment. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, children are in control of their own learning. Our emphasis is placed on the children's voice, actions, passions, and wonder as they direct their learning to understand the world around them.

The teachers keep us safe by looking after us and making sure that we are okay. They look after us in fire drills and lock downs and tell us where to go.

Child Safety

Child safety is a core value and the safety and wellbeing of the children we care for and educate are paramount and promoted in our centre's culture of respecting the children's voice, active supervision, and professional practice. We review our policies, procedures and practices continuously, keeping up to date with current NSW and national guidance.

Preschool is a place where we take care of each other and we include people in our play. We learn about being kind people and how to get ready for being grown ups.

Learning

Our play-based curriculum embraces the concept of “Belonging, Being, and Becoming” (EYLF), a child-initiated, adult-facilitated program. We support children to learn through active exploration and interactions with their peers, educators, and the environment. A child-centred curriculum that offers children the opportunity to make choices about what, how, and with whom they want to play.

We have lots of people who help us look after us and visit the Roseville Kindy. It helps us all learn and grow properly.

Community

We recognise that our community is a socially diverse and multicultural society. As a centre we recognise and value this diversity and believe that it is crucial for fostering empathy, respect, and open-mindedness. When diversity is valued and respected, people are more likely to develop a sense of belonging from a young age.

The preschool playground and classrooms have fun activities and games for us.

Environment

Our centre provides a calm, stable, welcoming environment. We have wide, open spaces that encourage the children to explore and discover on their own terms. Our teaching team acknowledges that the environment is the third teacher and children are encouraged to explore freely.

We all have to work together to make it a fun place to be.

Partnerships

We strive for a culture of mutual trust and open communication with our families and community. We believe that partnerships are crucial for holistic child development, creating a supportive network of educators, families, and other professional services.

At preschool we learn about looking after the environment and what we can do to help the environment heal.

Sustainability

We take an active role as a community to do our part in caring for our environment and contributing to a sustainable future. We believe that embedding sustainable practices advocates for a sustainable future.

Our Team

We value a team approach, where all educators are respected and encouraged to work together in a supportive environment. We encourage professional development and reflective practices within our centre.

Our Mission Statement

Goals for teaching and learning

These are the goals that we have set as a team for our work with the children, families, and wider community.

  • For the educators to be co-learners with the children, taking the journey together.
  • For the kindergarten to be an environment in which the children feel comfortable in taking risks in their experimentation and learning.
  • For the educators to work in conjunction with other professionals within the community to be able to provide the best education and care for the children.
  • For the children to be treated as the individuals that they are, with their own interests, needs, and capabilities.
  • To provide a curriculum that is relevant to the children and their interests, strengths, and needs.
  • For the children to feel safe, secure, and supported.
  • For families to feel welcome within the kindergarten.
  • For educators to be able to build a bond with the families, working in conjunction with them to help develop strong, secure, and confident learners.
  • For educators to be able to share their experiences and knowledge with other members of the teaching team.
  • For educators to be able to foster the children's independence and confidence within the educational program.
  • For educators to continue to build on their professional knowledge through professional development courses.
  • For the children to be able to feel comfortable within their relationships with their teachers and peers.
  • For the kindergarten to be a place of acceptable and equal opportunities for all.
  • For the children to be able to learn more about the environment, exploring environmental issues and promoting a sustainable future.

Our centre acknowledges that the land we play and learn on is the traditional land of the Aboriginal People now known as Ku-ring-gai. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and thank them for sharing and caring for the land we play on.
